Callaway Of the Month May '04
Welcome! The Callaway Owners Group is dedicated to the preservation of the world's most powerful Corvette.
Peter McArdle's Callaway Corvette
1989 Callaway B2K
This month, we revisit a past Callaway of the Month that recently underwent another transformation in Old Lyme. The Inaugural Callaway of the Month last May belonged to Peter McArdle and was a 1989 Twin Turbo that had just finished its transformation from a “stock bodied sleeper, to an Aerobody astonisher”. While Peter’s car had the looks to match the B2k package under hood, he wanted more… More power that is.
He sent the B2K to Old Lyme in a quest for more power after reading about some of the other special creations they had done over the years. Peter also pioneered the way for the upgraded Wonderbar to be made again and through his efforts; other owners have been able to have work performed such as turbo porting and exhaust.
Below is an excerpt from program from the Bloomington Gold show – Peter wrote this about his Callaway as it has received an invitation to be a part of the “Special Collection XX” at the show.
Peter’s Callaway seems to constantly be evolving and while I am sure we cannot wait to see and hear it, I wonder what he has in store next J
This particular car is one of 68 produced for 1989,and one of 32 factory ordered RPO B2K coupes. It's a definitive example of Callaway's Performance Engineering at its finest, thoroughly equipped with a host of Callaway options. For example, the Aerobody insures optimum aerodynamics at high speeds, and an Upgraded Wonderbar, which allows the turbos to feed on more air. Upgraded wastegates fitted with larger valves help handle the boost. There is a Single mass flywheel and clutch mated to the ZF 6 speed transmission, which help the turbos spool up faster, and exiting the turbos is a beautiful Stainless Steel true dual exhaust with Megaphones, making the car sound like a fighter jet taking off. . This Twin Turbo boasts Callaways Coil over suspension with FX3 ride control system, independently controlling each wheel for absolutely unbelievable handling and has been lowered an inch so it hugs the ground. The coilovers rest on top of a set of OZ Racing Mito Blindbolted carbon fiber wheels, made exclusively for Callaway, which allow 315-35-17 tires in the rear to handle the incredible horsepower and monstrous torque the vehicle generates. This car is by far the most fun and exciting car I have ever had the experience of driving.
