Callaway Of the Month November '05
Welcome! The Callaway Owners Group is dedicated to the preservation of the world's most powerful Corvette.
Mark D.'s 1991 Callaway B2K
This month, we are pleased to bring you the very first 1991 Callaway Twin Turbo Corvette, which was recently been purchased by a Texas (Callaway) car collector.
Spotted this past year in an online auction, Mark decided to make an offer in his quest for a twin turbo machine and in the end, was the successful bidder. While the car was picked up in California, it has spent a great deal of its life before that in Arizona with another Corvette collector.
Featuring a full load of optional equipment including the FX3 adjustable suspension and “sport interior”, this car is as comfortable as it is agile. While the 1991 Callaway Twin Turbo Corvettes gained power over the previous year to a whopping 403 hp and 575 lb-ft of torque, today it has remains one of the most powerful Corvettes ever constructed. While Mark was satisfied with the power levels and overall condition, he told us that he really wanted something besides the factory black / black color combination. True to his ideas, Mark sent the car to Boyd Coddington’s shop for a complete repaint.
Emerging from the shop, California’s sunrays had nothing compared to the brilliant hue the car was now painted in. Glowing body panels are covered in Old Lyme Green, the color of the original Callaway Speedster. Mark confessed that he is still in the hunt for one of those elusive cars – with only ten made, it maybe some time before one comes to market…
Looking underneath the car, Mark’s car has had Callaway’s Coilover suspension added for a true independent suspension over the stock transverse leaf springs. Painted in the same shade as the body, Mark had the coilovers dipped in green, along with the swaybars. Out back, it was also noted that Mark continued the Speedster theme with an exhaust canister of the same design f the roofless models, exiting out a notched tail panel – very slick!
While the car has less than ten thousand miles, Mark does plan to drive the car and we hope to see it at Callaway related events in the future.
In the meantime, enjoy your new car!
