Callaway Of the Month April '06
Welcome! The Callaway Owners Group is dedicated to the preservation of the world's most powerful Corvette.
Bob Tomczak’s 1990 B2K Convertible
This month, we are pleased to bring you a very unique Callaway Twin Turbo Corvette, owned by Corvette collector, Bob Tomczak.
In the fall of 1993, I caught a glimpse of this AeroBody convertible as it was being driven near Dulles Airport. I still remember this with great clarity, as this Callaway, was the first AeroBody car I had seen in person! There are two reasons I know it was this car for sure. Rick Hamilton, the Washington Redskins Linebacker owned Bob’s Callaway at the time. Also, the car has a color combination unique to this car – the white with red leather may be duplicated; however, I have yet to see another Corvette with a red convertible top.
While I only caught a glimpse, it left a memorable impression that I recalled when I saw the car again at the annual Corvettes at Carlisle show in the mid 1990’s. Wearing South Dakota tags then, the Aero Callaway sparkled on the Fun-Field with pride. Snapping a picture of the car (which remains in a collage, framed in my game room today), I was left in awe of this unique car.
Fast-forward to 2002 and the Callaway Reunion at Carlisle… amongst the 32 Callaway Corvettes on the Fun-Field, was that unique Callaway again. Bob had purchased the car in South Dakota and was displaying it at the reunion show. A closer look exposed its color keyed Dymag wheels and megaphone exhaust. Bob’s Callaway won a “Celebrity-Pick” award that weekend – a testament to its appeal.
The 1990 Callaway Corvettes were rated at 390 horsepower, and 562 lb-ft of torque, a slight increase over the previous year. Bob’s Callaway, in addition to the Callaway Megaphone exhaust, also has the “Big Wonderbar” for even greater power. Corvette options, in addition to the B2K Callaway Twin Turbo equipment include the six-speed transmission and FX3 adjustable suspension.
This Callaway has been featured in Vette Magazine and the online Corvette Magazine.com. In addition to being seen in print, Bob’s Callaway has been to the Callaway Reunion at Carlisle and was invited to be a part of Bloomington Gold’s Special Collection XX with many noticing its uniqueness. This car is a part of a distinctive Corvette collection – a BIG PART!
