2007 Callaway C16 Supercar #001

This month, we are excited to bring you the first car produced in the next chapter of Callaway Cars' history! Begining as a black 2007 Corvette coupe, this very unique Callaway C16 was ordered by its customer, long before the body molds were even finalized, signaling a great deal of faith in the abilities of Reeves Callaway, and the ENTIRE Callaway Cars team. The results speak for themselves, as the C16 has been written about in both print and online media around the world with the common theme being one - EXCITEMENT!  Some of the images in this feature were taken as the car was brought into the country and then prepared for the unveiling in Los Angeles while others, were taken at the debut itself.  Please read along as we detail this new Callaway supercar, and stay tuned for performance results as they arrive!         The next generation of Callaway supercars has arrived!

Callaway Cars, the legendary performance car manufacturer headquartered in Old Lyme, Connecticut, unveiled its newest vehicle called the Callaway C16 at the  Los Angeles Auto show, during the first week of December 2006 to a packed hall of automotive press & enthusiasts!

Callaway’s latest offering takes performance to the next level, exceeding the competition in performance & style.  Based upon the current Chevrolet Corvette platform, the C16’s power output has been increased significantly, with 616 hp and 582 lb-ft of torque available underfoot for its owner. With acceleration times reported of 3.3 seconds zero-sixty and the quarter mile times of 10.9 @ 129 mph (manual transmission coupe), the C16 is also said to eclipse the 200 mph mark (calculated at 206). Available in either coupe or convertible form and with either a manual or automatic transmission the car gets its boost in power through the utilization of a refined cylinder head, camshaft, and valve train package, complementing the Callaway Magna Charger that delivers 46” Hg, absolute positive manifold pressure.

Distinguishing the Callaway C16 from a standard Corvette will be very easy to do, as Callaway has re-bodied the car with a new FRP shell designed by Callaway’s longtime automotive stylist, Paul Deutschman. Deutschman, who penned the classic Callaway AeroBody and race-proven Le Mans body for the C4 based Callaway Corvette, also designed the C7 sports car, and the C12 supercar, has made this new body an exotic one. Additionally, the interior has been covered in full leather and Alcantara suede. With this option, virtually every one of the surfaces inside has been treated with new hides over the vinyl and plastic that was once visible. Upgraded Recaro seats can be fitted and the rest of the interior, redone to match.

The new bodywork in addition to providing its looks, serves as cover over massive new aluminum wheels. Measuring 19” x 10” (f) and 20” x 12” (r), Callaway/Dymag forged magnesium/carbon fiber wheels are optional. Whichever wheel package one selects, Yokohama Advan-Sport tires are wrapped around the rim, and massive six-piston Callaway/Alcon brakes can be added to the package. Other performance options for the C16 include the Callaway/Eibach Multi-Pro Coil-over suspension package supplementing the original leaf springs and adding new Callaway specific front & rear stabilizer bars.

With Callaway’s recently announced warranty program to supplement the GM 5 year/100,000 mile program, Callaway Cars will warranty any GM engine part due to failure of a Callaway component, in addition to covering the Callaway content.
