2009 Q1 Callaway of the Quarter
Bruce Grout's C5 Z06
It is truly an honor to have my automobile chosen as the Callaway of the quarter. The Callaway team exceeded all my expectations in building the first and only Callaway C5 Z06 Le Mans. You have to see it and drive it to believe it! This car is truly a rolling (and fast) piece of art.
As a diehard Corvette enthusiast and have owned a few Vettes over the years. One of my favorites was a 1987 Callaway Twin Turbo Corvette, a red coupe (#98) that currently resides in Texas. This car was one of a small collection I had, but by far it was my favorite. This car far surpassed some impressive custom built cars that were available at the time. There is something about driving a CTTC that puts a huge grin on your face a grin youll never forget.
Fast-Forward to 2008. This unique Callaway, nicknamed Evil Twin was built out of my dreams and obsessions. My favorite car colors have always been blue and silver, and already owning a Le Mans Z06, the logical choice was to upgrade another one to Callaway standards. I found the lowest mileage Le Mans Z06 I could find at the time and shipped it to Old Lyme. The car received Power Group upgrades as well as the famous Callaway supercharger, and the Evil Twin was born. It was completed just in time for her maiden voyage to Corvettes at Carlisle 2008. The drive down was a blast and a blur! What a huge difference from a stock Z06. This car pulls like a freight train, and never stops. While there, for my first time, I met other Callaway owners and finally met Chris Chessnoe, Manager of the Callaway Corvette Program, whom I had many phone conversations before, during, and after my build. Winding up the busy weekend, my Callaway Z06 was lucky enough to be the recipient of one of the coveted Corvettes at Carlisle, Celebrity Choice awards!
Never being content, I wanted something even more unique. Callaway again over-delivered with a two-tone Deutschleder leather interior that matched the paint scheme of the Le Mans perfectly, along with blue carbon fiber dash and console inserts, unique emblems, embossed seats and airbags. The look, the feel, and the smell of the interior are indescribable. With all the combined upgrades it truly makes this great car, one of one in the world. Completely satisfied with this car, and all my high expectations met, I cant wait for my next Callaway! Ill be on the lookout for the right C12 or maybe a C6 convertible
A special thanks to Reeves Callaway, Chris, Mike, and my wife, as well as the entire Callaway Team for building my Callaway Le Mans Z06
