The 2005 Callaway Open House
The fall season in Old Lyme, Connecticut offers some of the more beautiful scenery on the East Coast and possibly in the Nation.
However, nestled deep in that town, sits the recognizable building at the end of High Street, housing some of the most amazing sights in the automotive world. Of course we are talking about Callaway Cars and their Headquarters for their operations, which includes engineering and fabrication, and other shop facilities. On this cold and rainy October day, Callaway Cars opened their door to the Long Island Corvette Owners Association (LICOA) and the Callaway Owners Group for a peek inside the inner-workings of this world-class company.
With over four-dozen enthusiasts present, the Callaway Cars staff divided us into two groups for shop tours and an overview of the company, from the inside. In addition to the tours of the shop, we saw a wide variety of the cars the company had created over the years including the early Twin Turbo cars, right through the latest C6 SuperNaturals™, and many of the special projects in between.
During a luncheon served by the tire machines, owners and enthusiasts swapped stories and looked over much of what was discussed during the morning session. After lunch, a Q&A session was held, with Callaway Cars Staff often going well beyond answering the question at hand. As the open house began to wind down, Callaway Cars and LICOA organizers gave out many door prizes by a raffle.
Later in the day, many of the attendees gathered at the host hotel at the casino and then arrived back near the shop for a wonderful dinner at the nearby fish market. After dinner, a shuttle took the group to the casino for a night of fun.
Everyone we spoke with had a wonderful time! Many owners came away with information they previously did not know about their cars or, discovered performance options for Corvettes providing more ways to get the most out of their cars.
Thank you Callaway Cars and LICOA for your hospitality – see you next time
