87 TT idle RPM

Post by pandrews » Fri Apr 27, 2018 9:21 am

What is the correct idle RPM for a 87 TT and is there any different procedure from the standard corvette for setting it? I can't seem to get ours under 800 rpm. Just giving it some love after a 8000 mile trip around half of the USA. The car went well with no issues.

Its the same as OEM 7-800 RPM..... But no matter what I do, mine mostly idles at 900-1000 RPM, unless it has been run for a while....then it sits at 7-800 RPM. Changed out ECM/IAC- no Change, no intake issues, no engine or coolant issues, no codes

Thanks for the reply's. I had serviced and cleaned my throttle body, put in a new IAC and followed the procedure you attached. On starting the car it wanted to idle around 800-900 RPM which was why I put in the question as it had been 700 previously. On finally driving the car it settled back down to 700 RPM so I can only conclude that the new IAC hadn't fully seated but once the car was driven a few miles it adjusted itself correctly and closed up a bit. I do have one other question and that is the timing specification. My 87 handbook says 2 deg ATDC. I see on this forum someone said its incorrect in the book and should be 0 deg but on my intercooler its stamped as 6 deg BTDC. The car runs fine and has just done a 8000 mile trip no problems and is at 6 deg. Does anyone know if that 6 deg stamped on the intercooler is correct? I notice the sticker on the radiator has had the standard corvette timing information cut out of it. Presumably done at Callaway when the car was built.
